💛 Startup Lessons: close to 80% positive feedback - what we learn and more

(A Founder's Note on Our First Customer Reviews)

To our early supporters—our friends, family, and the first wave of Spike Durian believers—thank you.

The past few months have been a blur of sourcing, blast-freezing trials, and careful packaging. But the real moment of truth isn't the delivery—it’s the moment you finally thaw and taste that first creamy bite.

Reading through your feedback has been the most exhilarating, humbling, and inspiring experience of this entire journey. We wanted to share our report card with you—the raw scores, the wins, and the immediate lessons we're putting into action.

The Scorecard: Our Confidence is Confirmed

We took a risk on a core promise: that blast-freezing could deliver durian that tastes nearly indistinguishable from fresh. Your response proved us right.

Out of over 60 reviews, here is where we stand:

What You Told Us

Great

78.43%

“Couldn't tell it was frozen.” “Creamy, delicious, and not watery at all.”

It tasted very fresh, and the MSW quality was also very good. Frozen food has this kind of “fridge” taste but this did not have it. I tried other flash frozen food before, but this durian tasted like it was fresh from the fruit. Sometimes I eat durian left in the fridge for a few days, and they already have that “fridge”taste, so it was impressive that this one didn’t have despite being frozen for a few months.

“One thing that stood out to me is the colour - it looks very vibrant and fresh! Yours maintains a rich, golden hue that makes it look just as appetizing as fresh durian. The color definitely contributes to the overall premium feel and makes it visually appealing.”

Neutral

13.73%

Mostly feedback on price point during peak season and suggestions on aroma/packaging.

Negative

7.84%

Pointed to crucial, isolated quality control (QC) issues.

The overwhelming success in the
Great category has fueled our entire team. To know that nearly 8 out of 10 of you feel we delivered on the most difficult part—the texture—is the ultimate validation.

Our Core Victory: The blast-freezing technology works. We can confidently deliver peak-season Mao Shan Wang texture and creaminess, year-round.

The Founder's Excitement: Why Your Feedback Matters

As founders, we live for these comments. When you say the durian was
"creamy, delicious, and not watery," it confirms every late night spent optimizing the cold chain process. Every review is a blueprint for our growth.

There were even kind supporters who created their own videos on social media to promote our product and brand.

But what truly inspires us isn't just the wins; it’s the detailed, sometimes tough, criticism. We believe that a true premium brand is not one that avoids mistakes, but one that learns from every single one.

We see the non-positive reviews not as failures, but as clear, actionable roadmaps to a 5-star experience.

Our Learning Journey: Turning Lessons into Improvements

We dug deep into every single Neutral and Negative comment, and here is our commitment to you on how we will take these lessons and improve.

Lesson 1: The Packaging Should Not Be a Barrier

This was our most surprising and critical feedback. We tried to create a beautiful, premium unboxing experience, but it backfired.

The Feedback: "The additional cardboard wrap was too mahfun [troublesome] to remove. The packaging shouldn't come between me and my durians."

🎯 Our Action Plan (Immediate Change):

We are immediately simplifying our packaging. We'll be moving to an easy-open, sealed plastic tub format, like the one many of you suggested. When the aroma hits, you shouldn't need scissors or excessive force. The prize is the durian—we will make sure you can reach it ASAP.

Lesson 2: Closing the Sensory Gap

While the texture is near-perfect, a few durian connoisseurs feedback that the frozen durian sometimes lacked the intense, lingering aroma and flavor depth of a freshly-opened durian.

The Feedback: "Taste - not as strong and flavorful as normal MSW. Aroma did not linger."

🎯 Our Action Plan (Long-Term Refinement):

We spoke with our scientists on the issues of aroma. In order for the aroma to return, there has to be a better agrifreezing process. They will relook at refining and optimizing the program.

There is also the element of thawing and defrosting the durians to the right temperature. They had advised some new possible steps to defrost the product well.

Join Our Journey

Starting a premium durian brand isn't just about agri-freezing fruit and fresh-locking its quality; it's about building trust and delivering a reliable, premium experience.

Your feedback is the currency that allows us to improve, innovate, and obsess over every detail. We are not just selling durian; we are selling the promise of peak-season happiness, whenever you crave it.

We hope you will continue to follow and support Spike Durian as we evolve. We are committed to earning that 4.5 stars out of 5 every single time—and working tirelessly to reach that perfect 5.0.

Thank you for being part of the Spike Durian family.
