đŽ What one fruit can do to build a town. âĄď¸
Iâm currently in Raub, Pahang, visiting farms for Spike Durian. What I saw blew me away. Raub is one of the main towns in Malaysia that sells the premium Mao Shan Wang old tree highland durians.
This isn't just a "small town" anymore from 15 years ago. Itâs now a bustling hub of banks, modern services, and global brands. My partner explained that this entire ecosystem was built on the back of the durian trade.
But it is a "seasonal city"âvibrant and modern during the harvest, and quiet once the last fruit is sold as the people leave until the next season.
I heard on how durians in Pahang will be standardized in the form of grading and having a mark of quality.
Seeing this level of development firsthand makes me incredibly excited for the future of the industry. As export capabilities expand, Raub is a testament to how a single, high-value commodity can put a location on the global map.
Have you ever seen an industry completely reshape a local town?
